Market & regulation

Market and grid terms in Romanian, Russian and English.

aFRR — automatic frequency restoration reserveRO: aFRR — rezervă automată de restabilire a frecvențeiRU: aFRR — автоматический резерв восстановления частоты

Reserve activated automatically by the transmission operator’s controller; after about 30 seconds it takes over from FCR and brings frequency back to 50 Hz. Batteries are the best source of aFRR.

FCR, aFRR, mFRR explained →
AggregationRO: AgregareRU: Агрегация

Pooling several assets — plants, batteries, flexible load — into a portfolio that works the market as one. Deviations partly cancel out, and the combined volume counts for more.

Arbitrage & aggregation →
ANRERO: ANRERU: ANRE

The National Agency for Energy Regulation — approves market rules, including balancing and imbalances.

Market & regulation →
Aviz de racordare (grid connection approval)RO: Aviz de racordareRU: Aviz de racordare (разрешение на присоединение)

The grid operator’s document setting the technical conditions and approved capacity for connecting a plant.

PV + BESS plants →
BESS — battery energy storage systemRO: BESS — sistem de stocare a energiei în bateriiRU: BESS — система накопления энергии в батареях

Battery containers, converters (PCS), a transformer and a control system that charge and discharge on command. Described by power (MW) and energy (MWh).

PV + BESS plants →
BRP (PRE) — balance responsible partyRO: PRE — parte responsabilă de echilibrareRU: PRE — сторона, ответственная за баланс

A participant financially responsible for the difference between its declared schedule and the actual production or consumption of its portfolio.

BSP (FSE) — balancing service providerRO: FSE — furnizor de servicii de echilibrareRU: FSE — поставщик балансирующих услуг

A market participant that offers power reserves to the transmission operator and activates them on command, once its assets pass prequalification.

CurtailmentRO: Limitarea producțieiRU: Ограничение выдачи

A forced reduction in a plant’s output, usually at noon, when the grid or the market cannot take all the energy.

BESS retrofit →
Day-ahead market (PZU)RO: PZU — piața pentru ziua următoareRU: PZU — рынок на сутки вперёд

The market where energy for the next day is bought and sold by the hour. In Moldova it has run since December 2025.

EMS — energy management systemRO: EMS — sistem de management al energieiRU: EMS — система управления энергией

Software that decides when the battery charges, sells or stays in reserve, based on forecasts, prices and dispatcher commands.

Technology & partners →
Energy arbitrageRO: Arbitraj de energieRU: Энергетический арбитраж

Storing or buying energy in cheap hours and selling it in expensive ones. For a PV plant it usually means charging a battery at noon and delivering in the evening.

Arbitrage & aggregation →
Energy arbitrageRO: Arbitraj energeticRU: Энергетический арбитраж

Charging the battery when power is cheap and selling it when it is expensive — usually from noon to the evening.

ENTSO-ERO: ENTSO-ERU: ENTSO-E

The European network of transmission system operators. Moldova has been synchronised with it since March 2022; Moldelectrica is an observer.

FCR, aFRR, mFRR explained →
FCR — frequency containment reserveRO: FCR — rezervă de stabilizare a frecvențeiRU: FCR — резерв стабилизации частоты

The first line of defence: responds automatically within seconds to a frequency deviation and stops it from falling or rising further.

FCR, aFRR, mFRR explained →
Grid-formingRO: Grid-formingRU: Grid-forming

A converter mode in which it sets voltage and frequency itself, like a synchronous machine, and helps a weak grid stay stable.

Technology & partners →
ImbalanceRO: DezechilibruRU: Небаланс

The difference between scheduled and actually delivered or consumed energy in a settlement period. It is settled at the imbalance price.

LFPRO: LFPRU: LFP

Lithium iron phosphate — a thermally stable, long-life battery chemistry, the standard for grid storage.

Technology & partners →
mFRR — manual frequency restoration reserveRO: mFRR — rezervă manuală de restabilire a frecvențeiRU: mFRR — ручной резерв восстановления частоты

Reserve activated on the dispatcher’s command within minutes. It frees up aFRR and covers longer deviations.

FCR, aFRR, mFRR explained →
MoldelectricaRO: MoldelectricaRU: Moldelectrica

Moldova’s transmission system operator: dispatches the power system and buys balancing services.

FCR, aFRR, mFRR explained →
OPEM — electricity market operatorRO: OPEM — operatorul pieței de energie electricăRU: OPEM — оператор рынка электроэнергии

The entity that runs trading on the day-ahead market and calculates prices.

PCS — power conversion systemRO: PCS — sistem de conversie a puteriiRU: PCS — система преобразования мощности

The bidirectional converter between battery and grid: charges and discharges the battery while controlling active and reactive power.

Technology & partners →
PrequalificationRO: PrecalificareRU: Предквалификация

Tests through which the operator checks whether an asset can deliver a given balancing product with the required speed and accuracy.

FCR, aFRR, mFRR explained →
RR — replacement reserveRO: RR — rezervă de înlocuireRU: RR — резерв замещения

A slower reserve that replaces reserves already activated so they are available again for the next event.

FCR, aFRR, mFRR explained →
SCADARO: SCADARU: SCADA

Supervisory control and data acquisition: collects data from equipment and sends commands.

Technology & partners →
Single imbalance priceRO: Prețul unic al dezechilibrelorRU: Единая цена небаланса

One price for deviations in both directions in a period. It turns a forecast error into a direct cost for the producer.

SOC — state of chargeRO: SOC — nivel de încărcareRU: SOC — уровень заряда

How full the battery is, as a percentage of capacity. The EMS keeps it within limits that protect the battery and keep it ready for activations.
